Cancer genetic testing has been clinically available since the early 1990's, yet most high-risk individuals are unaware of their risk for developing hereditary cancer.
When individuals and families are aware of their risk, they can take life-saving action by modifying their lifestyle, working with their health care provider to develop an early detection screening and/or prevention plan, or undergo prophylactic procedures to reduce their risk of developing cancer.
Individuals undergoing cancer treatment may also have targeted therapies to treat their cancer more effectively.
It is important for individuals to feel a sense of community and know they are not alone. We know when at-risk individuals are armed with the knowledge they need to take control of their own health, outcomes improve. But, the journey is not linear nor easy. A support platform that meets high-risk individuals and families where they are is crucial.
Our team manages an online social media platform and facilitates online discussions. We host in-person support groups and host educational seminars on various topics. We have also served as patient advocates by attending medical appointments, screening appointments, biopsies, multi-disciplinary meetings, chemo treatments, and pre- and post-surgical visits.
We emphasize following the latest NCCN and USPSTF societal guidelines for cancer risk assessment, screening and management.
We have assisted medical professionals establish cancer risk assessment protocols in their practices. This has resulted in more at-risk individuals and families being informed of their cancer risk.
We are proponents of cancer research. If it wasn't for high-risk and affected individuals participating in research, we would not know what we do today.
If patient's are interested in participating in research studies, we are happy to make those connections.
Likewise, we allow researchers to utilize our forums and platforms to share clinical research opportunities and research results.
